From 5 to 8 September, more than 350 participants took part in the “Bildungsräume 2017” conference organised at TU Chemnitz. This joint event by the German Informatics Society (GI) and the German Society of Media in Science (GMW) inspired scientists from across Germany, Austria and Switzerland with its interdisciplinary approach and presentations on technology-based teaching, learning and examination in formal, informal and non-formal education spaces. The conference included two satellite symposiums covering the application areas of sport and medicine, taking an application-oriented perspective and focusing on the specific impact and effects of digitisation and the internet of things on qualification and education in urban spaces, sport and healthcare.
DFKI was well represented with a keynote speech on the topic of ‘Artificial Intelligence and Education’ given by Prof. Antonio Krüger (DFKI Saarbrücken) and another keynote speech by Gernot Bahle (DFKI Kaiserslautern) entitled ‘Next Generation Personal Wearable Trainers’. The event was organised and run by Prof. Christoph Igel’s team (DFKI Berlin) and by the staff of the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Chemnitz. Speakers at the opening included Saxony’s State Minister for Science and Culture Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, as well as Prof. Gerd Strohmeier, Rector of TU Chemnitz. Keynote speakers included Prof. Pierre Dillenbourg (ETH Lausanne, Switzerland) and Prof. Ruimin Shen (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China).
