DFKI’s ‘APPsist – intelligent assistance and knowledge services in the smart factory’ at this year’s national IT Summit was one of the top three exhibits visited by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This innovative project was presented to the German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel and ministers Andrea Nahles (BMAS), Johanna Wanka (BMBF), Thomas de Maizière (BMI), Alexander Dobrindt (BMWI), Saarland Prime Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer and Bitkom President Thorsten Dirks by former Festo CEO Eberhard Veit and IG Metall’s Federal Chairman Jörg Hofmann.
APPsist is a joint pilot project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), focusing on the use of artificial methods and procedures for work and learning on the shop floor. Ten partners from industry, IT economy, science and associations worked together on the project, led by the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, Festo AG and Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Other partners include the acatech German Academy of Science and Engineering and the IG Metall federal board. Dr. Carsten Ullrich and Prof. Christoph Igel make up the project steering group together with Klaus Herrmann (Festo AG) and Prof. Dieter Kreimeier (Ruhr-Universität Bochum).
