The Hamburg Congress on Sports, Economy and Media has already reached its 17th year: on 4 and 5 September 2017, numerous top-level scientists and representatives of international agencies and sports organisations met to exchange ideas at the HafenCity University Hamburg. ‘Sports Events 4.0 – the Virtual Reality of Sports’ was the tagline for joint discussions on the prospects of digitisation for the sporting world.

Dr. Ullrich, Deputy Director of the Educational Technology Lab (EdTec Lab) of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) opened the congress with a keynote speech entitled ‘From Learning to Doing: Can Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things Improve Education?’ In his keynote speech, Dr. Ullrich presented current work being undertaken by the Educational Technology Lab on the intelligent education spaces represented by the workplace and smart cities / sport, and how these enable new forms of support by combining the internet of things with intelligent and adaptive learning systems.
