As part of this year’s German Informatics Society (GI) DeLFI conference which took place from 5 to 8 September at TU Chemnitz under the auspices of the ‘Educational Spaces 2017’ multi-conference, the ‘E-Learning’ specialist group held its regular general assembly. Dr. Carsten Ullrich, Deputy Director of the Educational Technology Lab (EdTec Lab) at the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), was unanimously elected as a member of the E-Learning specialist group’s executive committee. The executive committee controls the development of the E-Learning specialist group, provides impetus and is also responsible for organising the annual DeLFI conference.
The E-Learning specialist group within the German Informatics Society (GI) deals with all computer-science-related elements of computer-aided forms of teaching and learning in schools, universities, professional life and lifelong learning. The topic shares a lot of common ground with other areas of computer science, such as software engineering, human-computer interaction, computer-supported cooperative work, knowledge management and intelligent teaching and learning systems, multimedia, and business informatics. There are already numerous forums on the topic of e-learning which take an interdisciplinary approach or are dominated by other disciplines: the GI’s E-Learning specialist group represents the issue from a computer science perspective, and is also part of the society’s Business Informatics and Human-Computer Interaction departments.
